about my work:
My works are based on specific landscapes that are the scenes of significant geographical and ecological changes and show traces of human intervention. What interests me is that the need for meaningful narratives always grows where such changes and frictions take place. Narratives, legends and myths can be understood as reactions to a world in upheaval. In this sense, I understand the legends and myths of Valais, which have been familiar to me since my childhood, as dialogs between people and their environment.
Another starting point is the social function of painting in European art history. As a vehicle for stories and narratives, painting has the potential to activate archetypal knowledge from legends and myths and to reinterpret it in the present. I work with painting techniques and compositions that originated in the Renaissance and incorporate them into my works. Painting thus offers me the opportunity to combine various content-related and technical references. For example, I depict pop-cultural objects in a glazing technique from the 16th century and implement them in the mystical landscape of the Valais mountains.
Instead of playing old and contemporary perspectives off against each other, I combine them and emphasize the topicality of mythology and the mythology of topicality.

Meine Arbeiten entstehen ausgehend von spezifischen Landschaften, die Schauplätze bedeutender geografischer sowie ökologischer Veränderungen bilden und Spuren menschlicher Eingriffe zeigen. Was mich daran interessiert ist, dass Bedürfnis nach sinnstiftenden Erzählungen immer dort wächst, wo solche Veränderungen und Reibungen stattfinden. Erzählungen, Sagen und Mythen können als Reaktionen auf eine Welt im Umbruch verstanden werden. In diesem Sinne verstehe ich die Walliser Sagen und Mythen, die mir seit meiner Kindheit vertraut sind, als Dialoge zwischen Menschen und ihrer Umgebung.
